Using the text using UTF-8 encoding creates a link automatically in Confluence on the UTF-8 part of the text.

This also happens when using ISO formatted dates 2012-11-15

Could you please give more details where this link was created in Confluence... as you're having problem using UTF-8 I suggest you to take a look at this following article:
