How to add javascript to the due date

Hi i want to add javascript to validate due date but due date is a built in field, is there anyway to do this?

there is a solution mentioned here: https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/51006/jira-setting-due-date-with-javascript

But I don't know, if it works. I did not try it.
