Field Configuration: Remove unwanted fields

Is there a way to create a new field configuration which is empty? Currently the default config gets copied over and we have too many fields in it to practically go in and hide each one, I am thinking there must be a better way? Or if there is a quicker more automated way to removed (Hide) a field...

No. field configurations always include all the fields.  There may be a plugin in the Marketplace.
