Will there be a support for Office connector in Confluence for the Office 2016 products?

Edit in Office option from Confluence shows Active X errors in Internet Explorer, whereas in Chrome, "Sorry, we could not open the <confluence url.xls>". Office 2016 no more uses Active X and why could not Confluence Office connector be supported in Windows 7?
