How to clear a custom field when an issue is edited and updated

I've been given the following request:

"When the user changes any of the fields using the edit operation, a specific custom field's checkboxes have to be reset."

I'm having trouble figuring out how to implement this since editing an issue is not a transition. I think this is something that would need to be done in behaviours but I can't figure out how I would go about coding it. Any tips and advice would be appreciated!

When you say 'any of the fields' I presume that means any other then the specific custom field? I think you're looking for a listener. I don't have experience coding them, but their purpose is to 'listen' for activity and take action.
