Can't authenticate using Bitbucket VS extension

I have been using the BB VS extension with Bitbucket Server for months without issue.  I briefly lost internet connectivity yesterday, which caused the extension to require me to log back in.   Authentication now fails, even though I can log into a) the BB portal site using a browser and b) BB using Git commands.  I have tried authenticating on two different machines, each of which gives two different errors:

1) unknown error.  (The 'hr' start tag on line 5 position 2 does not match the end tag of 'body', Line 6, position 3).  Check logs for more info.

2) wrong request.

My IT group is currently at a loss to solve the issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

There was a patch that got pushed about the time you discovered you no longer have access. You may need to update the certificates on your development machine. Furthermore, your admins may need to apply the certificate authority certificates to your Bitbucket server. Also check your proxy configuration. The Bitbucket extension may be trying to use the proxy If your bitbucket server is internal you don't want to be using the corporate proxy. Once I added my internal domain to the Proxy Setting Exceptions...I connected properly.
