how can we use Single user picker custom field in workflow transition condition

Question

we have custom fields labelled as secondary, third and fourth assignee. These are all single user picker fields. We would like to place conditions in our workflow transition so that only user is the secondary, third and fourth assignee field can perform that transition.  when i add the condition "user is in group custom field" it does not  display those custom fields for selection from the drop down.

Please advise how we can accomplish what we are trying to build. Thanks!!

To be honest, I haven't used that condition in combination with a Single Select List and I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. In other words how Jira will map a more or less "meaningless" list of values to a group membership of users. You can still use a Group Picker custom field and add only specific users to the groups. But that is not a very good approach in general. If you really want to only narrow it down to specific users, you need additional functionality. And if you're just starting with more interesting workflow magic in Jira you will definitely want to have a look at the marketplace. Remember you only have two built in validators (and one of them is obsolete) and basically no useful post functions. :/

Thanks Max. What if i use the "user is in group custom field" and select "secondary assignee role" which is a custom single select list field in our jira instance? I tried that but it did not display the existing values to pick from and tie that value to the transition.

Hi Parameeta,

you said it yourself. You are using a User picker custom field and try to fin the field in a Group Picker custom field. That won't work of course. The condition you're trying to use accepts other kinds of fields if I remember correctly but not the one you're using. By default Jira does not offer a wide variety of (useful) conditions so you really should consider buying on the of the available workflow apps on the market! :)
