How to document multiple estimates

Question

How can I create multiple estimates for the various phase for a JIRA card

1. Design

2. Development

3. Testing

Yes I know we can add them up and make it the original estimate but we want to track each 'phase' and allow the card to have all the communication happen in the main card

Someone suggested sub-tasks for each card where I would log my time, which is messy, and logging time does not allow me to put my 'Work Description' to 'roll up' to the main card

Jira doesn't offer the capability you're looking for. People usually get a plugin like Portfolio to manage multiple estimates across numerous teams.

Thanks.  I cannot imagine our company is the only one that would rather use 1 card to track its progress through multiple phases.  And that JIRA does not have capacity, nor has anyone created an add-on to allow for this option.  My guess is that we will go back to using 3 cards.

Sure, that could work -- There's no out-of-the-box input that works like the Time Tracking Field -- No field out of the box supports the jodatime syntax that Jira uses. So you could use a number field and ensure that one is entering Hours or Minutes or something.

It would be inconsequential to use this information to adjust the Estimate on an issue. I fear one problem will be that there is no correlation between such estimates and time logged.
