How can I set a custom field as required?

I have a screen "PO Screen" with two fields ponumber and amount. This screen is assigned to a transition.

How can I force the user to enter value in both fields when He do the transition without buying any addons, alternatives and detailed steps is highly appreciated.

You need validators that can check the entry is correct.

The Jira ones that come off the shelf cannot do this. You will need add-ons to provide them. (Some that do it might be free, but you need add-ons)

Hi Mohamed

Go to Issues Admin, then choose Field Configuration. Choose the configuration which applies to your "project", then scroll through the custom fields to those that you're interested in. On the right hand side of each row, there is a toggle link - either Required or Optional - this can be used to ensure that fields are mandatory

I did this and reverted it back because when other project tried to create a new ticket they were asked to enter the ponumber and amount, I don't why.

You'll need a separate field Configuration just for your project (you can Copy an existing one), so that those fields can be set to Required for your project but not for others

To write a "script", you will need an add-on to provide the scripting hooks and engine. So yes, whatever way you're doing this, you are going to need add-ons.

Warren's answer below is an all-or-nothing - if flag a field as mandatory, it is mandatory from the point of issue creation.

In the field configuration, there is no option to create a filed configuration to which I can assign the fileds ponumber and amount and set the required property

In the field configuration page we see the all the fields where I can set the field as required or optional.
