[Xray] Create test plan, create test execution and link them all at once during import

Question

Hello,

A bit of context : in Xray, we have Tests which are grouped in Test Sets. When we have to test a version, we create a Test Execution for each Test Set. Then we create a Test Plan and add the Text Executions to the Test Plan.

What I am doing for now : I create the Test Plan manually. Then, using the import feature, I create the Test Executions and link them to the Test Plan. This is working well, except for the fact that I get a message in the Test Executions saying "Tests associated with the Test Execution but not with the Test Plan. There are X Tests in the Test Execution which are not in the Test Plan XXXXX-1234". I have to click on a "Add test" button (in each of the Test Execution).

What I would like to be able to do :

* I would like to be able to create the Test Plan AND the Test Executions AND associate them in one import. Is that possible ?
* I would like to have Tests added automatically to the Test Plan so that I don't have to click on the "Add test" button

Hi Jonathan,

If you want to create Tests, Test Executions, Test Plans in only one import operation, that currently is not possible.

If you want just to create a mix of Test Sets, Pre-Conditions and Test Plans (and not Test issues), you should be able to use Jira's CSV importer for that as described here: https://confluence.xpand-addons.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=21760052

Note that in the later case, you will need to know the Test issue keys beforehand, thus they need to exist before you make this import.

Thank you for your answer. I meant "import" as in "import from a file" (a CSV file).

Hi Jonathan,

In Xray's UI, the Test Plan issue screen you can either create Test Executions or you can add some existing Test Executions.

The later option is what you're aiming for, since whenever you add Test Executions explicitly from the Test Plan issue screen, the Tests that belong to those Test Executions will also be added to the Test Plan.

If you're using the REST API to import data then you should be able to use the Test Plans endpoint for that purpose (https://confluence.xpand-addons.com/display/XRAY/Test+Plans+-+REST)
