Confluence and JIRA - Ability to see JIRA Ticket Title When Pasted in Confluence

Question

We have the majority of our organization with access to Confluence but a subset has access to JIRA. For release notes, I tried to copy the JIRA ticket into Confluence. While all Confluence users could see the ticket # they could not see the title of the ticket. Only JIRA users could see the ticket title.

If the idea is that those without JIRA access cannot even view the ticket they why allow the ticket number to be viewed? Otherwise, why not allow the title to be viewed. Clicking it will result in the user not being able to get into the ticket since they do not have JIRA access.

Looking for consistency and an easy way to display high-level ticket info.

Hi Colleen,

The reason that users cannot see the issue title is most likely because they they haven't been given a Jira license. So it won't be possible to allow those without Jira access to see the titles, unless the project is made available for anonymous users.

You most likely would not want to do that, unless your instance is only available from behind your firewall. This is because it would make the Jira project available to anyone on the external internet.

Thank Shannon. We still cannot get it to work. Both Jira and Confluence are on our server and behind our VPN. Does that make a difference with your answer? Also our team seemed unsure what it means to "make the project a public project". Can you provide more details?

Hi Colleen,

The users in Confluence will be able to see the title provided they have access to browse the issue in Jira.

This means that either they have to be added to Jira as a licensed user, or you have to make the project a public project. This would mean also anyone on the internet that can reach your site will be able to see it as well.
