Jira: Sending email from issue

Is there a way to send an email from an issue so the email thread gets attached to the issue?

I know there is the plugin Email this issue. But I am getting burned out on capabilities that should be in Jira that are spinning off new ventures and companies that are all trying to make money.

Other issue tracking applications have the ability to email from the issue. Jira did but now you must pay for this with 5.0 or higher I guess?

With the Script Runner plugin you can send custom emails in the moment you want with the information you want. Highly recommended, plus it is free.
