Set PostScript Create SubTask "Additional issue actions" to pull user from Parent Custom Field

Question

We have a custom field in a parent issue type of "Release Engineer". When a status the status is transitioned from "Scheduled" to "Begin Prep" we'd like to have that custom field assigned to the subtask as the assignee.

Example

1. Parent Issue 1001 = custom field "Release Engineer" = JDoe

2. Sub-Task created by workflow.

3. "Additional Issue actions" section assigns new subtask = "Release Engineer" = JDoe.

I've tried many of the searchable solutions and none work with our script tool within JIRA, please help!

I'm attempting to use automation but it's failing at every sample I've found in the JIRA forums.

JWME addon is able to do this fairly easily. Alternatively you could also use Automation For Jira addon
