Linking story workflow status with sub task workflow status

How do you cause the status of a story to move from, for example, not started to in progress, automatically, when a sub task within the story moves from not started to in progress.  Seems that it should be automatic rather than manual status changes for each.

This is possible through "Script Runner Plugin". You need to write custom Workflow Post Function to make this work.
