I would like to ask if its possible to have various status descriptions in different workflows.

No, it's not a function of workflow, a description belongs to a Status. Each workflow is a framework of status. So there's only one description available.
Of course, you can have two status with very similar names - "Fred", "Fred ", "fred", "phred", and each one of them can have it's own description. Not elegant though, as you'll see several when searching.
