Can I use the latest Apache Struts with Confluence version 5.10.8?

WebWork/XWork is so old (10+ years) and the documentation is very hard to find and I am having difficulties trying to get validation to work so it would be great if I could just use the latest Struts somehow. If so, would it be seemless, a cinch or a hack of some sort?
