Preferred way to upgrade from Jira 3.12.1 to 5.1

Hi,

What is the prefered way to upgrade from  3.12.1 to 5.1?

I have seen that some people recommend Export/Import and this tutorial (

Jakob,

Based on experience, the best approach is to do this step by step as suggested in here. The gap between the two versions is quite big. Hence better not to go for a straight upgrade.

Yes, you should definitely upgrade to JIRA 4.4 first. There are major changes between JIRA 3 and JIRA 4 - best to do that first and fix any issues before going to 5. From 4.4 to 5.1 is a much smoother route.
