Alternatives to the Parent Issue Summary plugin

We recently upgraded to JIRA 5 and I was heartbroken to discover that the Parent Issue Summary plugin hasn't been upgraded to the newest version yet. Most of my critical reports are useless without it. Has anyone found an alternative to this plugin? How complex is the code to write it ourselves? If it's relatively simple, I might be able to get some developer time.
