How do i recover from a failed upgrade of UPM

Edward Murphy

Hi,

I was upgrading the Plugin manager withing Confluence and the server crashed.

Now i get

Error occurred during template rendering: Invocation of method 'getCssResources' in class com.sun.proxy.$Proxy66 threw exception java.lang.AbstractMethodError at /decorators/includes/header.vm[line 35, column 26]. Contact your administrator for assistance.

I have tried:

* index rebuild

* Disabling decorators in the db

Been unable to find much help on the error.

Any suggestions?

I fixed this last night doing the following:

1) take the ZIP backups to a safe location

2) Dump the database and back that up

3) uninstall confluence

4) remove /var/atlassian/application-data/confluence

5) drop the DB

6) Re-create the DB

7) Install Confluence from scratch

8) Copy the latest zip into /var/atlassian/application-data/confluence/restore/

9) At the end of the install chose "Restore from backup"

10) restore and re-apply add-on's and themes etc.

Not ideal but all my content seems to be there so i'm happy.

You could try the solutions at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Universal+Plugin+Manager+is+Inaccessible+or+Does+Not+Show+Any+Pluginssuch as going to /admin/viewplugins.action.

When you get the error? For every page view or just when you try to go to the UPM?

Edward Murphy

Hi Don,

Thanks for your answer. I have tried a few different pages and I get the error on all pages so far. The link you have provided unfortuantley takes me to a login url and i get the same issue.

I'm thinking I may just need to reinstall and re-upload my content from the nightly backups.

Is there a stacktrace in the logs?

Could you delete the newly installed version of the UPM using https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/How+to+manually+remove+malfunctioning+add-ons

That should give you back the old bundled version.

Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager - Plugin License Storage plugin (com.atlassian.upm.plugin-license-storage-plugin, Version: 2.12.2, Installed: bundled)

Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager Plugin (com.atlassian.upm.atlassian-universal-plugin-manager-plugin, Version: 2.12.2, Installed: bundled)

Back to bundled version and still same issue.

I think i'm down to installing from scratch as I am out of ideas.....

Please follow the procedure below to rollback the plugin to a previous version:

1) Shut down Confluence;

2) Remove the existing UPM JAR file from this directory in your Confluence home directory:plugins/installed-plugins (The name of the JAR file may be prepended with a number, such as: 846688264762062110.atlassian-universal-plugin-manager-plugin-2.x.x.jar);

3) Copy an older version of UPM plugin .jar file into the same directory (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.upm.atlassian-universal-plugin-manager-plugin/versions).

4) Start Confluence.

Hope it helps!

Cheers

Luciano

Still broken.

From what I can decypher (I'm not a java coder but have done some debugging in my time) it is almost theme related.
