can outside users collaborate on confluence

I am looking at possibly pitching Confluence to my department head for an option for a collaboration tool. But I suspect we need to make sure outside users can access the environment for presentations and information (customers or outside vendors we deal with). We have many Linux users, so webex (which was requested) is not really a good option for all users in the company.  What kind of access could/would someone not within the company have, if invited for a presentation within confluence?

If you expose the system to the internet, then your users can have whatever access they need - they'll be able to log in and colloborate as though they were in your company.  Some people will layer extra access control in front of that, by using a proxy that people have to log in through, but that's a network trick, not a Confluence thing.
