Confluence New User --- LDAP

OVERVIEW: We have a new employee (named X) starting tomorrow --- IT created X's main server account (yesterday) so that we may use the account for LDAP Internal Directory on Confluence. We add everyone - individually - to Confluence with an LDAP method.

EXPERIENCE: I cannot seem to add X to any groups within Confluence. This is a new experience (never had this issue before). However, this is the first time we've added a NEW employee to Confluence. Typically, we add existing employees to Confluence user groups.

QUESTION: For LDAP and Confluence, does X need to sign into the server (at least the first time) in order for Confluence to recognize X's LDAP so that I may add X to a user group?

CR - it depends on the type of user directory. If it's delegated with the checkbox "copy user on first logon" checked then yes, they need to log in first.

If it's a synchronising directory then when the sync runs you will be able to see the user and add them to groups.

So to clarify, what type of directory is your ldap in confluence -> admin -> user directories?
