Corrupted Confluence Installation

Question

I have a corrupted installation of Confluence 3.5.9 which runs of a SQL Server.

The corruption was caused by server fault and is not application related.

I have set up a new Confluence installation on a different server (which is not visible to the currently corrupted application server on the network).

How do I transfer the data from the original SQL Server to the new installation and also the original Home Directory (i.e. Data) so that my new installation looks just like my original before corruption?

I can't run my original install of Confluence to do a db backup as it's too far gone.

I've taken a SQL DB backup file and a copy of the data folder and tried restoring them to the new installation. However, I get a http 404 error when I Do this.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Sean,

We expect that, even if the application is not starting, the logs would register at least the reason why the application is not able to start. You can get more information on how to find the location of Confluence logs in this documentation.

Probably a really silly question, but how do I view the log if the application wont start?

Depends what the 404 is caused by.  404 means "can't find that url", which could be anything from your network through to the application not starting.

What does the application log say?  If Confluence is not starting, the application log will tell you why.  If it is starting ok, or even with errors, then can you reach it locally on the Confluence server?  If you can, then the 404 is network based.  If you can't, then the log should tell you what the errors are.
