is it possible for the server to be configured to set time automatically? How would you make the change?
Hi Reggie,
On Jira Cloud you shouldn't have to touch it, as long as your Jira default user time zone is set to a city or region and not to a plain GMT offset. Atlassian's KB for this exact case says that "When set to Region GMT, daylight savings changes are not reflected", while a location such as Vancouver keeps the time accurate: https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-cloud/kb/daylight-savings-time-are-not-being-reflected-in-jira-cloud/
I'd check it once under Jira admin settings > System > General configuration > Time Zone, and if I saw a location like "(GMT-05:00) New York" there, I'd leave it alone for good. The offset shown in that label doesn't have to match the season, because Jira adjusts the clock for you anyway. I'd also let your users know that anyone who set their own zone in their profile keeps that one, so the default won't change anything for them.
Hope this saves you a calendar reminder.
You can specify the "Server" Time zone - it takes care of itself beyond that.
It's per app however.
(Jira is more of a shared configuration in JSM/JPD/CSM)

This won't override personal users settings however once they set it. Also presuming "Cloud" - not that DC would be all that different.
"App Admin" permissions required at a minimum (Jira-Admin/JSM-Admin (maybe?)/Confluence-Admin)
So, with the time change does it automatically update without me as the org admin making any changes?
Correct - it sets it self provided all the various things are in place (that being you declare a timezone)
If it's Datacenter - I would suspect it needs network time access in terms of the platform its hosted on.
I think its safe to say a brand new "org" would default to the creating org admin's time zone - or "Sydney AUS" but I may be a little off on that.
Hi, Yes. Jira Server/Data Center doesn't keep its own clock. It uses the system time of the host operating system, so you set up automatic time at the OS level by syncing with an NTP server:
If the clock is right but times in Jira look shifted, that's a timezone setting, not a sync problem. The JVM uses the OS timezone unless you set -Duser.timezone.

Keeping the clocks in sync also stops application link and OAuth errors with Confluence and Bitbucket.
