Hi Community
I'm Anurag, an engineer from the Jira team working on Individual Capacity Planning.
You can now manage Individual Capacity Planning from your AI client or agent through the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server. Your agent can see who is allocated to what, allocate people to work, and manage non-project work, all through the same secure connection you already use for Jira and Confluence.
A quick recap: what is Individual Capacity Planning?
Individual Capacity Planning lets you plan your team's capacity person by person. The Capacity view shows who is allocated to what work and where leave and other non-project work fit in. It's available on Jira Premium and Enterprise plans. For the full introduction, see Individual Capacity Planning is here.
New to MCP? The Atlassian Rovo MCP Server uses the open Model Context Protocol to connect Atlassian apps with your AI client or agent. It uses OAuth and your existing Atlassian permissions, so an agent only sees and changes what you're allowed to access.
Because it also connects Jira and Confluence, an agent can bring your work data from Jira and Atlassian Projects into your capacity plan.
What you can do
Start by allocating people to work. Once allocations exist, you can ask about them, adjust them, and report on them.
- Allocate people to work in plain language: Try "Allocate the Checkout redesign epic to everyone on the Platform team at 30% in September in my capacity plan" or "Put Alex and Sam on PROJ-42 at 3 days a week for the next month in my capacity plan."
- See who is planned to work on what: Ask "What is Alex allocated to in the capacity plan?", "Show everything Jordan is allocated to in the capacity plan", or "Who is working on PROJ-42 in the capacity plan?" and get answers across all of your plans.
- Track leave and non-project work: Say "Book Jordan two weeks of leave in August in my capacity plan" or "Allocate Run the Business at 20% to the team in July, August, and September in my capacity plan."
- Import leave from your calendar: Share a Google Calendar .ics export and ask "Add the leave in this file to my capacity plan."
- Get insights from your plan: Ask "Who is over-allocated next month in the capacity plan?" or "Where does the Platform team have spare capacity in Q4 in the capacity plan?"
- Export your plan to Confluence: Ask "Publish a Confluence page with key insights from the Platform team's Q4 capacity plan."

Getting started
Connect your AI client or agent to the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server and use the capacity planning tools alongside Jira and Confluence. For setup details, see the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server documentation.
These tools are available on version 2 of the Atlassian Rovo MCP Server.
If you're on version 1, see how to upgrade from v1 to v2.
