Hi, I have a few kanban boards that display the due date. Last week I could see the due date colored red when overdue, this week is no longer colored. What could have changed in the projects?
Last week
This week
They're probably just tweaking the visual appearance again.
In the board settings, you can only control WHAT is displayed, not HOW it appears visually on the tile. For example, on our boards, overdue due dates are marked with an exclamation point icon.
To make overdue due dates stand out a bit more visually, take a look at the “Card colors” option in the board settings. There, you can color-code the tiles based on a JQL query such as “duedate < now()”
Hello @Giselle Cubillos
Atlassian is already tracking a related change here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-99211

Hi Giselle,
If you go with Martin's card colour query, I'd add a status condition to it, because duedate < now() on its own also matches cards that are already in Done, since they keep their old due date. I checked this on a test site today and the Done cards don't get the new warning icon, so I'd use a query like duedate < now() AND statusCategory != Done to keep the colour on the open cards only and match what the icon does.
On company-managed boards you'll find the Queries method in Board settings, under Layout > Card colors, and that's where I'd put the query once you've adjusted it. I'd also set your expectations on the look, because Atlassian's Customize cards page (https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/customize-cards/) says the colour shows as a thin strip on the left side of the card, so it won't look like the red date you had before.
Are your boards company-managed or team-managed? I only checked the card colour setting on a company-managed board.
Thank you. I'm already using card colors.. I liked how it was last week. I don't even have a small icon to show is overdue.
Hey @Giselle Cubillos, thanks for coming back on this, and sorry, I got the Done part wrong earlier. I tested again today on a company-managed board, and a card in Done without a Resolution still shows the warning icon, so only a Resolution removes it. That also means duedate < now() AND resolution is EMPTY in your card colour query matches the icon better than the statusCategory version I gave you.
Your PDSUP-492 key isn't struck through, so that card doesn't look resolved to me. Your date also shows in a calendar-style pill, which isn't how the date looks on my test board (plain text with a small triangle), so your board may not have the icon yet. Could you check whether PDSUP-492 has a Resolution, and whether that date is the system Due date field? A custom date field didn't get the colour or the icon in my test. Does last week's PPISW board still show red today?
If you'd like the old look back, you can vote on the suggestion Arek linked (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-99211), and I'll take another look with you once you've checked
Thank you Gabriela, I'm not talking about Done items.. the items still in-flight as per my screenshots. An item still in the workflow who's due date is overdue should be colored
Hey @Giselle Cubillos, sorry, you were asking about the open cards and I drifted onto the Done ones instead. JRACLOUD-99211, the ticket Arek linked, describes Atlassian swapping the red date for a small warning icon, though your PDSUP card doesn't even show that icon, and I couldn't find a board setting for how the date looks. Voting on and watching 99211 is the way to push for the red date. What you can do today is add duedate < now() AND resolution is EMPTY at the top of your Card colors list in red, because each card takes the colour of the first query it matches, and your overdue cards will then lose their other colour. Does your PPISW board still show the red date today? I'm glad to check your query order with you if you post a screenshot
