Dash Board and saved custom filter

I am under the impression that Jira dashboard allows you to create charts using a saved filter's statistics in video below. However, I am not able to get the filter to show. see video from 2:44. does this have to do with free version?

It's not the Free plan. Dashboards and gadgets work the same there.

Two things to check:

The search has to be saved as a filter. Running JQL on the search page is not enough. Open Filters → View all work items, run your query, then click Save filter and give it a name. Only saved filters show up in gadgets.
In the gadget's settings, the filter field is a search box. It stays empty until you type part of the filter's name. Starring the filter (the star next to its name on the Filters page) makes it appear in the dropdown without typing.

If the filter was created by someone else, they also need to share it with you. The picker only shows filters you own or that are shared with you.

Usually I have to use the Advanced Search option to find my filter. What happens when you're looking for your filter when configuring a chart?

I do not have any advanced filter in its dropdown as shown below. I posted a screenshot. It is also significantly different from the video i showed as my filter is across the page rather than a dropdown in the widget's, i.e., a pie, bar chart, etc., setup panel on the right. I showed the difference in my view for filter across the page (1st pic) vs the setup for widget (2nd pic);

My super admin told me that she had initially setup the space and other filters for company wide as opposed to based on teams. clarifying that this is a filter I set up and not hers, do not think I will be limited because she has a company wide filter. I am not sure that could be contributory to my difficulties here

Thanks for the advice. However, I am still having issue. I did save the filter as the video had stated. If you check my second image below, the left pane showed …KPI just below truncated "search work items" above it, which is part of the filter dropdown.
I created the filter and had make sure I gave myself permission and played with the view settings on the dash board page as well. nothing…works.

Hi @Howard Wei,

The cause is probably the dashboard type, not the Free plan. Your screenshots look like Jira's new dashboards, with Add filter at the top of the page and an Add chart panel that starts with Metric (y-axis) rather than a saved filter. The video uses a classic dashboard, and that's where the saved-filter picker lives, so Habib's steps are right for that one.

The thing I'd check is Dashboards > Create dashboard. If it offers classic or new, pick classic, then Add gadget > Pie Chart and type your filter's name.

If there's no choice, the new route is the page's Add filter plus the chart's Group by, as described here:

I couldn't reproduce the new layout on my own site. It only creates classic dashboards.

Hi @Howard Wei, to confirm what Mihai suspected: Atlassian's page on the new layout says it outright. It's the Home dashboards beta, and "Home dashboards don't support using JQL saved filters or Jira boards to refine your data" (Home dashboards early access program). So no setting will make your saved filter show up in that chart panel. The "Dashboard filters" box at the top narrows the data by field values instead.

If Create dashboard gives you no classic option, that beta is on for your site. An org admin can turn it off in Atlassian Administration > Settings > Platform experiences, by switching off Beta features for the site (same page). The toggle is called Beta features, so it may cover other betas on the site too. Worth checking with your super admin first.

On a site without the beta (my test site, today), Create dashboard makes a classic dashboard. I added the Pie chart gadget, and its first required field is "Project or Saved Filter", with a search box and an Advanced Search link. That's the picker from the video.

thank you all. issue has been resolved. @Mihai_LeanZero is spot on as I was in the new dashboard. The only confusion was that since I am not an admin or anything, there was not an annoucement or anything that the beta dashboard setup for pulling the queries are different from user interface. First time Jira user as of 2 weeks ago.
