The current layout makes it easy to post a follow-up as a separate top-level comment instead of replying to the answer it belongs to.
In this example, the author responded to my troubleshooting steps in a new comment. The conversation then continued underneath that comment, splitting the context across two places.
Could we make replying within the existing thread more obvious?
- Make Reply more prominent under each answer.
- Show Replying to [name] with a short preview above the editor.
- Label the main editor Add a new answer or comment, so the difference is clear.
- When someone mentions a participant in a new top-level comment, offer Reply to their answer instead.
- Let authors or moderators move a misplaced follow-up under the relevant answer.
Separate answers should remain easy to add. Continuing an existing conversation should be the simplest option, with a small prompt before accidentally starting another thread.
