Could we add more Kudos challenges across different products and review some existing ones, such as Standout Specialist?
Encouraging people to help in less active categories makes sense. But when rewards depend mainly on answering questions in specific categories, it can encourage digging up old threads just to complete the challenge—even when the question already has a working answer.
Adding a new solution or correcting outdated advice is useful, regardless of how old the thread is. Repeating an existing answer or adding a generic comment mainly creates notifications.
Some ideas:
- More challenges across products, so people can contribute where they have experience.
- Rotating challenges focused on unanswered questions.
- Recognition for tested workarounds, useful follow-ups and updates to outdated guides.
- Limits on repeated rewards for contributions to the same thread.
- A review of challenges that make low-effort posting an easy way to collect points.
Accepted answers should count, but they cannot be the only measure. Plenty of useful replies never get marked as accepted.
I like the Kudos programme and would welcome more challenges. I also think we should review what behaviour those challenges encourage. There should be more ways to earn recognition by helping people, without making necroposting and point farming attractive.
