I am an admin and when I am doing bulk updates, it would be most helpful in step 3 of the updates to see the field list in alphabetical order. Currently, I have to use the search functionality sometimes to find the field I want to change.
Hello @Angie Kroymann
Unfortunately, Jira doesn't currently support alphabetical sorting on the bulk-edit screen. There's already a feature request for this exact need: JRACLOUD-95383. You can vote and watch for updates. For now, searching for the field is the practical workaround.

Honestly Id suggest using Jira-Admin level of import to bulk edit if your dealing with too many fields.
Export to CSV - edit/change - import and it will overwrite. (you'll have to switch to legacy mode)
(We've done one too many field clean up tasks <nervous laugh>)
Hello @Angie Kroymann,
As @Arkadiusz Wroblewski pointed out, the bulk edit field list can't be re-sorted today, so voting on the feature request is the way to push for it. Instead of the bulk edit wizard, you can also bulk edit field values via the Jira search / list view: Select all the issues you want to edit, select Edit fields in the action bar at the bottom of the page (visible once you selected some issues), then you can add the field that you want to edit in the sidebar.
Edit fields
AndIf you edit the same handful of fields regularly, you could also skip the wizard altogether. If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, JXL for Jira lets you save a sheet with exactly the fields you care about as columns, in the order you choose. From there you edit values inline and copy-paste them across many rows at once, spreadsheet style, so there's no field list to scroll through on each run.
Disclosure: I work for the team that builds JXL.
All the best, Paul
