We were accessing JIRA data of a project through Power BI Connector (OData Feed) for creating dashboards in Power BI. After migration of Jira to Cloud, how can I access the same Data?
Hi @K, Padmashri [C]
After migration to Cloud, your previous Power BI connection may no longer work, as the data source URL, authentication method, or connector configuration might have changed. đ In pretty much every migration we did, those things would need to be reconfigured.
I'd recommend reaching out to your Jira administrators first (or the general IT department), as they should be aware of any changes made during the migration, including whether the Power BI connector was migrated or replaced. đ
They should also be able to confirm the correct connection details and any permissions required to access the cloud data.
Cheers, Tobi
Hi Tobi - Thank you so much for sharing this information! đ
Hi @K, Padmashri [C] Jira Cloud does not have a native OData feed out-of-the-box. After migrating from Server/Data Center, you have two primary ways to reconnect Power BI:
If you previously used an app like Power BI Connector for Jira (by Alpha Serve, Caelor, etc.):
If you do not want a Marketplace app:
https://<your-site>.atlassian.net/rest/api/3/search?jql=project="YOUR_PROJECT_KEY"
Thanks!!
One native option that isn't in the answers above, in case your Cloud site is on Enterprise: Atlassian Analytics can create a data share, a read-only set of Data Lake tables shared over Delta Sharing. In Power BI Desktop it's Get Data â Delta Sharing, then the endpoint URL and bearer token from the credentials file an org admin downloads. No pagination to deal with, unlike the REST route.
Heads-up: anyone with that connection sees all the shared data, whatever their Jira permissions.
Hello @K, Padmashri [C] One small update to the REST option above: Atlassian's REST docs now list GET /rest/api/3/search as "Currently being removed", so I'd build on the enhanced search endpoint instead:https://<your-site>.atlassian.net/rest/api/3/search/jql?jql=project="YOUR_KEY"&fields=summary,status,assignee,created&maxResults=100 Two differences matter for Power Query:
GET /rest/api/3/search
nextPageToken
isLast
startAt
fields=
Same Basic auth as above (email + API token). Best, Cloverkite
Since you were on an OData feed before, here's one more thing to weigh on top of the options above. The REST route works, but the API token belongs to one person's account and expires after at most a year, so the report quietly stops refreshing when that person leaves or the token lapses.
If you want to keep the OData setup without tying it to a personal token, OneFeed gives you an OData feed from any JQL query, and Power BI connects with Basic auth using a feed key instead of anyone's account. Full disclosure, I help build it, so I'm biased: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/437261097
