Atlassian has now confirmed a Bitbucket outage on October 21, which may explain the error you encountered.

Hi,

Please check the "Past Incidents" list at the bottom of the status page. If an outage is officially confirmed, an entry with specific start and end times will appear there. Currently, it shows "No incidents reported today."
