Do the actions "Log Action" and "Create variable" counts as a step on my monthly step allowance?

With the new changes to steps allowance, does the Log action and create variable steps count towards the monthly allowance?

Yes they do, any step in an automation that is actioned, counts as an executed step.

@Arkadiusz Wroblewski is right on using the {{3debug}} option.

Or in case you do need to have fallback options, I know this is overhead, have a duplicate rule with the actions. Disable this and only use it when your original rule starts failing and you need logging.

Both of those actions count as steps. Here’s a "sneaky" tip: instead of adding a separate Log action for checking smart values, just use {{#debug}} inside an existing action. It’ll save you an extra step. 🙂

Yes each step in your flow counts towards UBP, here is the excerpt from the UBP FAQ:

Steps are consumed each time an automation flow runs an action, condition, branch, or loop. For example, a flow with 1 trigger, 1 condition, and 2 actions equals 4 steps.
