Trello search feature doesn't work properly or always?

Andrea Ciani

Hello, I think there could be a bug about the search feature of Trello because I have a card archived months ago with this word inside the description:

99_PREORF23_LIVEORD

Unfortunately if I still search the card using this word no results appeired but I need to use different words of the description.

I even used the Include archived cards in research or the filter tag description: but the result is still empty.

Do you know why?

Thank you so much.

Andrea.

Hi @Kimerabubble

This could be related to how Trello indexes special characters like underscores.

Could you try description:"99_PREORF23_LIVEORD" in https://trello.com/search and also search for PREORF23 separately?

Atlassian has an unresolved, related archive-search bug, TRELLO-1165, but it concerns the archive search panel specifically.

Hi! Thank for the suggestion.

I tried

description:"99_PREORF23_LIVEORD"
description: "99_PREORF23_LIVEORD"
liveord
preorf23

No result at all.

I tried 99 and it worked.
I tried preorf23 alone and it worked but I guess only because it is also una word of the title of the card (I was lucky about it).

This is the screen of the card (no worry about the language): you can see the preorf23 is in the title and in the description (but with underscores before and after) and 99 is only in the description with the underscore after.

The card is archived since September 8th 2026.

Thank you so much for the info.

Interestingly, an Atlassian team member discussed similar search behavior in this thread.

Could you try a test card containing 99 PREORF23 LIVEORD (with spaces) and see whether all three terms become searchable?

When that works but the underscore-separated version doesn't, that should probably be reported.

I read the post but it shows an image with the title called tudo Appt 3. Strangely after the reply, the user showed a different title of the card: tudo_Appt 3 so no space between tudo and _Appt words. I think the case is not reliable.

Anyway I tried the whole 99 PREORF23 LIVEORD (without spaces between the words) and the result has been empty.

Just to list the detailed behavior i tried 99 and it found some cards with 99 in the title, the card I was searching and some cards that don't have the 99 value in the title neither in the description or comments… take a look, as you can see there is no 99 in the entire card at all…

then i tried PREORF23 and it found some cards that have the value in the title, the card i was searching (i think because the value is in the title and not in the description in the word 99_PREORF23_LIVEORD) and cards that have the value only in the comments.

then i tried LIVEORD and the result has been empty.

In this way I also listed cases when the system shows results without the value inside the entire card content (99).

Thank you.
