Hi Atlassian Community! 👋
If you manage asset data and normalization in Assets Data Manager (included in Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise plans), we have an exciting update that will save you significant time and manual effort!
💡 Why we built this
Data dictionaries are essential for normalizing disparate asset data across discovery sources into clean, standardized "golden records" (such as grouping Windows 7.1, 7.2, and Windows 7 SP1 under a single standard value: Windows 7).
Previously, entering dictionary groups and mapping values required adding them one by one through the UI. With our new Bulk Upload capability, you can now populate entire data dictionaries in seconds using a simple CSV file!
✨ What’s new?
- One-Click CSV Upload: Import entire datasets containing both your dictionary groups and their mapped values in one go.
- Interactive Preview & Inline Editing: Review your entries in a preview table before committing. You can edit values, fix character limit issues, add missing items, or remove rows directly from the preview screen.
- Merge-Safe & Re-Upload Friendly: The upload endpoint safely updates existing groups with new values and automatically creates any new groups. Re-uploading modified files won't create unwanted duplicates.
- Post-Import Summary: Receive an instant breakdown of how many new groups were created and how many values were added.
🛠️ How to get started
- Prepare your CSV file:
- Include two columns: Group and Value.
- Keep the file size under 1 MB and ensure individual values are within 127 characters.
- Navigate in Assets Data Manager:
- Go to Assets → Data Manager → Object classes.
- Select the ellipses (...) next to your chosen object class and select Data dictionaries.
- Click the folder icon next to your data dictionary and choose Bulk upload.
- Upload and Confirm:
- Drag and drop your CSV file, click Next to review and adjust the Preview, then hit Import!
What is the timeline for release?
Roll-out of this feature will be complete by the end of October 2026.
