Only show unread keeps turning itself off

Rob Mason

This started happening yesterday. The "Only show unread" marker toggles itself off on every page load. It doesn't stay on any more and remember it like it used to.

It's like this on every page load and even within the page, it doesn't remember any more.

Hi @Rob Mason

I tested this on my own instance, but I wasn't able to reproduce the issue, so it might be something specific to the affected environment or browser.

I also checked with Atlassian Intelligence, and it suggested that the Only show unread preference may be stored in browser data. I haven't personally verified that this is the cause, but a few things might be worth trying:

Make sure you're using a standard (non-private/incognito) browser window.
Check that functional cookies/site data are allowed for Atlassian sites, including atlassian.com.
Check whether the browser is configured to clear cookies/site data when closing the browser.
Temporarily disable privacy/ad-blocking extensions and then enable Only show unread again.
If it still doesn't stick, try clearing the Atlassian site data/cache, sign in again, and test it once more.

Since you mentioned that this only started happening yesterday, it could also be a temporary glitch. If the problem persists, I'd try another browser (ideally without extensions) to see whether the behaviour is the same there.

If it happens across different browsers as well, that would be a good indication that it's probably not a local browser issue. 🙂

Hi @Rob Mason

Did you try from other browsers?
Anyone else experiencing the same issue than yours?
Did you try to disable any blockers on your browser?

By answering these questions you will help us narrow the troubleshooting steps.

I am having the same issue with my company instance of Jira and it started around the same time. Any time I navigate to a new page the Only show unread option is unchecked under the notification menu.

I primarily use Chrome. I cleared all site data for Atlassian, logged out and then logged back in. I also tried an incognito window, to see if it was a browser plugin, and it still happened.

I then tried Firefox and I received the same results.

I'm also having the bug where I can't change a ticket type or move a ticket because on the last step it says "Invalid CSRF token". Works in a different browser. That's a bug that keeps re-appearing every few months, along with other session related bugs that Atlassian have had for 10+ years and never fixed.

Another one I'm having right now is Bitbucket shows no recent repositories. Again, I think it's a session/cookie/storage issue. All Atlassian products randomly break every few months and you have to use a different browser or clear all session/cookies/storage.

I am having the same issue. My mistake was misclicking the toggle to turn it off, and it never came back on afterwards no matter how many times I tried. I use Edge browser.

I'm also having the same issue since about the same time as others. Poland, macos, chrome. Using it every workday for about 8 hours, almost every hour. Jira UI is so buggy and slow it makes me cry. If it continuous I will push hard on switching the tool for the whole company. And I know the competition has better products, I used some. Atlassian, it's a real shame to have so much resources and not provide top quality product. I'm really hoping you do something with this unstable UI.

Still experiencing this issue. Just for fun, I tested Edge as well and received the same results.

Thought I was the only one. Is this going to get fixed? Is jarring to be honest

I have the same issue and it's very annoying… hope it gets fixed soon…

Several employees (including me) are also having this issue at our company. Chrome and Brave browsers.
