Plans change. A supplier delivers later than expected, a key team member becomes unavailable, testing takes longer, or priorities shift.
In a complex Jira project, even a small change can affect dependent tasks, resources, and ultimately the delivery date. The challenge is knowing which tasks have room to move and which ones need to stay on track.
That’s where having the whole project schedule in view makes a difference.
Manage complex Jira schedules with Gantt Suite
Gantt Suite for Jira gives teams a visual way to plan and manage complex projects without taking the work outside Jira.
You can bring Jira work items onto a Gantt timeline, connect them with dependencies, and see how different parts of the project fit together. When the schedule changes, auto-scheduling can recalculate dependent tasks to help keep the plan consistent.
For larger projects, Gantt Suite also helps you:
- manage team availability with resource calendars;
- see workload and capacity in the resource panel;
- identify tasks driving the project end date with the critical path;
- resolve resource conflicts with resource leveling;
- explore alternative plans using scenarios;
- compare the current plan against baselines;
- manage milestones, constraints, and deadlines.
The idea is simple: instead of managing dates, dependencies, and resources separately, you get a clearer picture of the project and can see how changes affect the plan.
Now see how much flexibility your schedule has
Gantt Suite for Jira keeps improving to make planning smoother and give teams more useful information when schedules change. One of our latest additions is Task Slack.
Task Slack shows how much a task can be delayed before that delay starts affecting other work or the overall project schedule.
Gantt Suite calculates two types of Slack: Free Slack shows how long a task can be delayed without affecting its successor. Total Slack shows how long a task can be delayed without affecting the overall project schedule.
Instead of treating every change as a potential problem, the project manager can quickly see where there is room to adjust the plan and where extra attention is needed.
You can display Free Slack directly on the Gantt timeline by opening Show in the toolbar and enabling Slack. This makes the available scheduling space visible alongside your tasks, so you can understand flexibility without having to calculate it manually.
Both Free Slack and Total Slack are also available as grid columns. For larger schedules, you can use them with filters and conditional colors to quickly find tasks with no or little room for delay, or identify tasks that have enough flexibility to be rescheduled.
This is especially useful when you’re looking at a large project plan and need to decide where changes can be made with the least impact.
Slack adjusts as your plan changes
Project schedules don’t stand still, and neither does Task Slack. When you move or resize tasks, change durations or dependencies, or adjust working calendars, Slack is recalculated automatically.
So if a supplier moves a delivery date, a team member’s availability changes, or priorities require you to rearrange the plan, you can immediately see how much flexibility remains across the affected tasks.
Combined with dependencies, auto-scheduling, resource planning, and the other scheduling tools in Gantt Suite, Task Slack gives you another practical way to understand the impact of change before it turns into an unexpected delay.
More confidence when plans change
A project plan shouldn’t only show when work is scheduled. It should also help you understand how much that schedule can change.
With Task Slack in Gantt Suite for Jira, you can see where your plan has room to move, identify tasks that need closer attention, and make scheduling decisions with a clearer understanding of their impact.
More visibility. Fewer scheduling surprises. More confidence when plans change.
