The automated Progress bar

Question

Hi, we have just introduced Goals, and getting our first updates for this Q. One objective has 4 sub-goals, with the progress set as sub-goals.

We're wondering why the objective is showing 100% progress, when only 1 of the sub-goals has been marked at 100%?

We were expecting it to show 25%.

Yeah, this is not like progress bar in Jira @Natalie Lok > where the system simply looks status category of each child work item. As the guys said, these are related to metrics and we're talking about metrics roll-up.

Goal progress is intentionally designed to reflect outcomes rather than just the volume of completed tasks 👈

What would maybe work (if you're aiming to see the 'volume' here) is, once they release automation support for Goals and Projects > to then use Success measure instead of roll-up and automate that calculation based on completed sub-goals 🤔

I do also see use cases where what you're looking for would be better than the current design, so I'd maybe suggest reaching out to Atlassian Support and discussing it with them. That's if you're on a paid plan.

Atlassian’s sub-goal rollup announcement describes the calculation as an average and says branches without success measures show 0%. Check those details before concluding that missing metrics explain the 100%.

If all four are active, directly linked, and show those percentages individually, the parent’s result doesn’t match the documented calculation. That would be a useful reproducible example to raise with Atlassian Support.

Hi there,

From the detail you shared, my assumption is that the other 3 sub-goals don't actually have a metric applied to their success measure so they're being excluded from the roll-up. Can you confirm that the other sub-goals have a metric?
