fix versions field cannot be added to "User Story" issue type layout in team-managed project

Question

Hello,

In our team-managed project MT, the Fix versions field is available for issue types such as Story and Bug, but it is missing for User Story.

* Versions are enabled and the project contains multiple versions.
* We can see and edit Fix versions from the List view for User Story issues.
* However, when editing the User Story issue layout (Space settings → Issue types → User Story), the Fix versions field cannot be found in the field picker and therefore cannot be added.
* Other issue types in the same project display the field correctly.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Is it related to the new Spaces navigation for team-managed projects, and is there a way to make Fix versions available on the User Story issue type without migrating to a company-managed project?

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community 😊 There is a known issue where Fix Versions are not displayed for certain Work Types in Team-Managed projects. The workaround is to disable and then enable Releases.

Check MarkWorkaround steps:

* You can navigate to your team-managed space → Remove release by clicking on 3 dots
* Then click the + sign and add the Release tab back to navigation
* The fix version field will then start showing up in the workitem types.

Quick check before you change anything, open Space settings, Issue types, User Story and look at what category that type sits in. If it is a Sub-task category type it will never show Fix versions as an editable field on its own screen, since versions live on the parent. If the category is standard, look further down the field list for Fix versions before re-adding it, because List view can show a field the detail screen has simply scrolled past. Also worth checking whether User Story was created by copying Story, copied layouts sometimes carry a stale field set.

What type of your "User Story" Work type is associated with?  Is it a "Standard Work ype" category or "Subtask" category.  It is my understanding that if the worktype is a "Subtask" category, then it automatically inherit the Fix Version value assignment from the parent issue.

One possible solution -

Go to Project Settings > Features. Toggle the Releases feature OFF, refresh your browser tab, and toggle it back ON. This resets the field mapping and usually restores "Fix versions" across all your work types
