"We couldn't create the space"

"Wait a few moments and try again. If it's still not working, contact support"

Good day to whoever is reading this; I created a couple spaces and am now receiving this error when creating another one. Contacting AI support being a premium jira user it led to this community to contact support for help with continuing. I am using a wholly unique name and key, i do not have any in my trash that are similar.

To quickly chime in here, it's usually related to browser/account session conflicts (or local browser cache issues; try clearing those to see if it will reappear), although I've seen something similar once due to licensing limits → the customer breached/exceeded its user license limit, which results in the restriction of admin functions 😬

As for contacting support, you have to be an app admin to be able to raise a ticket, but I'd say it's the most efficient way to debug stuff if you've tried most of the things listed here. 🎟️

One additional thing to check: are you using a built-in Jira template or a custom template, and is the space company-managed or team-managed?

Atlassian has a documented bug, JRACLOUD-98934, where creating a space from a custom template fails with this exact message because the template references trashed custom fields. That’s separate from the deleted spaces you’ve already checked, so a unique name and key wouldn’t rule it out.

First of all, welcome to community! ✨

As @Joseph Chung Yin had mentioned, wait for 15 mins & retry. You could also try the following options:

* Try to recreate it in Incognito mode.
* Try creating a Blank Space first instead of creating from a template. If a blank space succeeds, the issue was related to template asset provisioning, and you can reconfigure the space layout manually.
* Also ensure the space key uses only uppercase alphanumeric characters (e.g., DOCS1, ALPHA) and is within standard character limits.

If the above options doesn't help, please try creating support ticket following the below instructions:

* Go directly to the official Atlassian Support.
* Log in with your Organization Admin / Site Admin account.
* Select —> Technical issues and bugs.
* Choose your Cloud site URL and select —> Jira Software / Confluence (Premium).
