Hello Community! đź‘‹
We’re excited to let you know we are rolling out support for more custom fields in Jira Plans, including Assets object fields, so you can bring more of the context your team already uses into your planning.
You can see the assets linked to your work, read longer-form details, and check when work items were created or last updated. You can do all of this without leaving your plan.
🗂️ Bring Assets into the planning conversation
Your team may already use Assets object fields to link work to services, equipment, or contracts. You can now see and use those links in Plans.
You can:
- See Assets values alongside your work by adding an Assets object field as a column in your plan.
- Change which Assets objects are linked to a work item directly in your plan, without opening each work item separately.
- Group and filter by Assets values to focus on the work that matters to your team.
Example: planning new office openings
Your company might already track its offices in Assets and link Jira work items to them through an Office field. In Plans, group by that field to see the IT setup, furniture orders, and employee preparations for each location together, even when different teams own the work. Filter to the London office to review its progress. Or show the Office column to see which opening each work item supports. You can also change the selected office directly in your plan.
Bring cross-team work for each office opening together in your plan with the Assets object field.
🗓️ Keep the detail close with paragraph fields
A short summary doesn’t always tell the whole story. Acceptance criteria, background information, or implementation notes can make a big difference when you’re discussing what to do next.
Click a work item’s summary in your plan to open its description, where you can now view and edit paragraph custom fields.
Paragraph fields appear here rather than in the plan’s columns, so you can keep your plan scannable while still having the detail close at hand.
We’ve also added support for uploading images and files in descriptions and paragraph fields from within Plans. This is useful when a diagram or supporting document says more than another paragraph could.
Read and edit the detail without leaving your plan.
đź” See more context at a glance
Three more fields can help you understand the work items in your plan:
- Read-only text: bring existing text values into your plan for reference, with filtering and sorting to help you find what you need.
- Created: see when work items were created, then filter or sort to focus on newer or older work.
- Updated: see when work items were last updated, and use filtering or sorting to find work items that haven’t been updated recently.
These fields provide context without changing their values. You can now also filter by number custom fields, giving you another way to narrow a plan to the work you want to discuss.
See when work was created and last updated alongside the work item.
🚀 Get started in your plan
For Assets, you’ll need an Assets object field already configured for your work items.
- Open your plan and go to Plan settings → Timeline.
- Select Add field, choose the Assets object, read-only text, or paragraph custom field you want to include, and add it to your plan.
- Return to your plan and use Add Fields to show your Assets object or read-only text fields as columns. You can also select Created and Updated here to display those dates for each work item.
- To view or edit a paragraph field, click a work item’s summary to open its description.

📦️ Rolling out now
These improvements are rolling out, so you may not see them on your site just yet. You can find more information in the release notes for Assets object fields and additional fields in Plans.
Which of these fields will be most useful to your team? Are there other field types you’d like to use in Plans? Let us know in the comments.
