【Confluence】Smart Button Not Working for Non-Admin Users

Dear Support Team

When attempting to click the Smart Button on a Confluence page, the following message is displayed:
"Smart button has been removed. Contact your admin."

As a result, non-administrator users are unable to use the button, while administrators can still access it.
The button was functioning normally until at least two weeks ago, so we are unsure what may have changed since then.
If you have any information regarding the cause of this issue or any possible solutions, we would greatly appreciate your assistance.

When you say administrators “can still access it,” can they actually click the Smart Button on the published page and successfully execute it, or can they only open/manage its automation flow?

Adding to Arek's question, because the answer points to one of two different causes, based on Atlassian's docs:

If admins also get the "Smart button has been removed" message when they click the button on the published page, the flow behind it has most likely been turned off, deleted or changed. Changing or deleting a flow can disconnect it from its smart buttons, and deleting a flow doesn't remove the button from the page. Check whether the flow still exists and is on (space settings or Confluence admin → Automation), and if it was recently re-created, re-insert the smart button and link it to the current flow.
If admins can click it and it runs, but other users can't, look at permissions: a smart button's flow respects the permissions of the person who clicks it, and fails if that user doesn't have edit permission for the space where the flow runs. Check the space permissions of the target space for the affected users.

Yeah, I've just tested this (cool finding though) and as one of the previous answers state, this most likely happened when space admin disabled automation related to the button.

I also believe same/similar thing would happen if you, for example, downgraded Confluence to Free plan, where you don't have automations. So if you did some changes related to billing/plans, that might be the reason as well 🤔

I have reviewed the Automation page and confirmed that all items are currently set to Enabled.
Based on my understanding, these settings have remained unchanged, and the Smart Button was functioning correctly with this configuration until at least two weeks ago.

As I have not been able to identify any obvious issues on my side, I would be grateful if you could let me know whether there are any additional settings, permissions, logs, or other areas that I should review. If there is anything I may have overlooked, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

@w74230 as it's a bit hard to troubleshoot this remotely (and note: this is not the official support team; we're mainly end users like yourself), I'd suggest reaching out to official support through here: Atlassian Support 🎟️
As you're on a paid plan, you/your admin should be able to raise a ticket there.

The official support team should be able to take a direct look at the page/button you're referring to and help you troubleshoot. 👈

When they do, I'd appreciate it if you could share how this was resolved 👀
