Jira Formatting Wrong

Question

Hi - I opened Jira timeline today and the linkages were all misaligned and some epics were showing up as invisible on my timeline view. Additionally, the colors are all slightly off and look different and even were all grey and based on task progress (which I figured out how to switch out of). Anything I did wrong or a setting/update/reported issue I should be aware of?

Timeline “linkages misaligned / epics invisible / colours all grey” is usually a view setting or filter interaction rather than corrupted data.

Quick reset checklist:

* On Timeline, open View settings / Colour by — switch Colour by to Issue type or Priority (not Progress) and see if epics reappear.
* Clear any Quick filters / JQL filter on the timeline that might exclude Epic issue type or parent links.
* Toggle “Show epic” / hierarchy options if present; check you’re not zoomed so far that bars render off-canvas.
* Try Incognito / another browser to rule out a stuck local UI preference after yesterday’s Cloud UI rollout.

If it started today for multiple people on the same site with no filter changes, treat it as a Timeline regression and raise Support with site URL + screenshot — there have been intermittent Timeline layout bugs after recent UI updates. Your issue data is almost certainly fine; the view state is what’s off.

On top of what Ollie said, I'm just curious which browser you're on and if other users are seeing the same thing 👀

I think we've troubleshot something similar for one end user, and it ended up being a browser caching issue (or maybe one of the extensions interfering), but I'm not entirely sure, as it was a while back.

Anyway, if things work fine in incognito mode/window or a different browser, I'd suggest clearing cookies and cache in your current browser and session and checking how things look after that 🤔

Hi Linae,

The formatting issues (invisible Epics, misaligned lines, and grey bars) are likely due to the recent "Unified Timeline" update or a browser rendering glitch.

Please adjust the following in the View settings menu (top right):

* Reset Linkages: Toggle Dependencies off and on to refresh the rendering of connection lines.
* Restore Hierarchy: Ensure Show inline hierarchy is enabled to fix Epic nesting and alignment.
* Verify Dates: Confirm that missing Epics have both Start date and Due date populated; otherwise, they won't render.
* Fix Colors: Change Color by from "Status" back to Epic color to remove the uniform grey bars.

* Are you using a Company-managed or Team-managed project?
* Does resetting your browser zoom to 100% fix the misalignment?
