Timeline - "expand every epic" setting just disappeared

Question

The timeline in Jira has just been revamped. There was a settings "expand every epic", which allowed to easily expand each epic to easily see a whole timeline.

It seems that it just disappeared from the new timeline. This is a critical feature for us, as we have many epics with many tasks within them, and we need to have an holistic view of all the tasks within our timeline.

Is there another way to do it? If not, can it be brought be asap please?

Thanks. Actually I noticed I can just click on the toggle next to the "work" title, and it does the same as the expand every epic.

Hi Thomas, you're not missing a hidden setting. After the Unified Timeline rollout, the project Timeline no longer has an "Expand every epic" / expand-all control. Individual expand still works; expand-all does not. That matches what David described.

Practical options today:

* Plans (Advanced Roadmaps, Premium/Enterprise): the plan timeline still has Expand all / Collapse all. If your space is already in a plan, that view is the closest replacement for a full hierarchy screenshot or review meeting.
* List view in the same space: turn on hierarchy / group by Epic so you can scan children without the Timeline bars.
* Feedback: use the in-product feedback control on the Timeline, or a support ticket if you're on a paid plan. Reference that expand-all existed before the Unified Timeline change and that Plans still has it. Atlassian did restore expand/collapse-all for Business Timeline earlier this year (JRACLOUD-97615, Fixed); software Timeline is the gap now.

I haven't found a keyboard or URL trick that expands every epic in the new software Timeline. If expand-all comes back, it'll be from that feedback/support path rather than a board setting.

Hi Thomas,

It looks like the new Timeline experience has changed how epic expansion is handled, and I also don’t see an equivalent to the previous “Expand every epic” setting in the current Timeline options.

At the moment, epics can still be expanded individually, but for projects with a large number of epics and child issues this is obviously much less practical than having an Expand all option.

Interestingly, Advanced Roadmaps Plans still provide an Expand All / Collapse All option, so the functionality exists in another Jira planning view, but it doesn’t appear to be available in the newly revamped project Timeline in the same way.

I’d definitely suggest raising this through Atlassian’s feedback channel / support so they can confirm whether the option was intentionally removed or is planned to return.

An Expand all epics option would be very useful to have back, especially for teams using Timeline as a high-level view across many epics and their child work items.
