workspace is over the 1 GB size limit

Hi,

My workspace is over the 1 GB size limit so i cleaned it with filter-repo.

I did :

$ git reflog expire --expire=now --all

git gc --prune=now --aggressive

git count-objects -vH

But when i do $ git push origin --force --all, it's reject again. I have another repository but it's about 600 MB for both of them.

I cannot ask for run garbage collection on the repository at Altassian because i use a free account.

How can i do ?

Hi,

Can you create a new repository and update your local remote to the new repository? And then git push? If it is done, delete your big repository later.

I have also requested support, to check if they can assist with backend GC for you.

Hi Cokas, you're right to question that. The 1 GB limit on the Free plan applies to the whole workspace, not to each repository. While the workspace is over the limit, every repo in it is read-only, including a brand-new one. A new repo only helps in one of these cases:

You delete the old, bloated repo first. Deleting a repository takes its size out of the workspace total. Your cleaned local copy is only ~19 MB, so you'd be well under 1 GB afterwards. Or:
You create the new repo in a different workspace, which has its own 1 GB.

If you go with delete-and-recreate, do it in this order so you don't lose anything:

Make sure your cleaned local clone has every branch and tag you want to keep (git branch -a, git tag). After the delete it will be the only copy.
Note anything that lives only in Bitbucket and isn't in git: pull requests, Pipelines variables, webhooks, branch restrictions, access settings. Those are removed with the repo.
Delete the repository (Repository settings > Delete repository), then check Workspace settings > Plan details to confirm storage is back under 1 GB.
Create an empty repo (no README), same name if you like. Then:
git remote set-url origin <new repo URL> (or git remote add origin …, because git filter-repo removes the origin remote)
git push origin --all
git push origin --tags

If you'd rather keep the existing repo and its PR history, the other route is a server-side garbage collection. Viswanathan has already flagged it, and Bitbucket support staff do pick up GC requests posted here in Community, so it's worth waiting for their reply before deleting anything.

Hi @Cokas, I would suggest taking a look at the ticket I raised for you BBS-255499. You should leave a comment with your Workspace ID, so Bitbucket Support can process your request as soon as it's picked up.
