When creating a question, the form currently asks mainly for a title, body and tags.
For many technical questions, however, some basic information is essential before anyone can give an accurate answer especially:
- Deployment: Cloud or Data Center
- Product: Jira, JSM, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.
- Plan: Free, Standard, Premium, Enterprise, where relevant
- Project/space type: team-managed or company-managed, where relevant
Today this information is often missing, so the first reply has to be something like “Are you on Cloud or Data Center?” before troubleshooting can even begin.
Tags help, but they are optional and aren't always selected correctly.
It would be useful if the Question form included a few contextual fields that appear dynamically depending on the selected product. For example:
Product: Jira
Deployment: Cloud / Data Center
Plan: Free / Standard / Premium / Enterprise
Project type: Team-managed / Company-managed / Not sure
These details could then be displayed automatically with the question.
This would help:
- members get relevant answers faster;
- responders avoid giving Cloud instructions to Data Center users, or vice versa;
- reduce repetitive clarification questions;
- make questions easier to search and filter later.
