Currently, clicking an image inside a Forum post opens the image itself in a new browser tab.
It would be much smoother if images opened in an in-page preview/lightbox panel instead, similar to how images are commonly previewed in other Atlassian experiences.
Ideally, the preview could support:
- viewing the image at a larger size
- zooming in/out
- closing the preview and returning directly to the post
- navigating between multiple images in the same post, if applicable
- optionally opening/downloading the original image when needed
This would make reviewing screenshots and other visual content much more convenient, especially in longer technical posts where users may want to inspect an image and then continue reading without switching tabs.
Current behaviour: clicking the image opens the raw image in a new browser tab.
