Hi everyone!
We know that for many of you, especially those in larger organizations, managing access is a carefully orchestrated process. Often, this happens outside of Confluence in centralized systems to ensure a clear audit trail and consistent group-based permissions.
Until now, the built-in "Request access" flows in Confluence weren’t configurable, which could allow requests to bypass these established workflows, leading to extra manual work for admins and confusion for users.
We’re excited to share that Confluence admins can now:
- Turn off space access requests site-wide.
- Turn off content access requests site-wide.
- Customize the restricted access message to guide users to your internal help desk or ticketing platform to request access.
How it works
You’ll find these two new settings in Confluence administration under Permissions > Access requests.
When you turn off either space or content access requests, the default "Request access" button is removed. Then, you can choose to show a custom message (up to 500 characters) with hyperlinks to your preferred request form.
Note for Admins: Turning off content access requests will automatically clear all existing pending view and edit requests for your site to help you start with a clean slate.
You can find detailed instructions for how to turn off space or content access requests in our documentation.
