Post-Migration Pain Points: Is our Agile process actually faster in Cloud, or just different?

The "Cloud Migration & Agile Process" Angle

I recently led a full migration from Jira Data Center to Jira Cloud for my organization, and now that the dust has settled, I’m reflecting on how the move impacted our actual Agile workflows.

As a QA Engineer and Jira/Confluence Admin, I noticed some interesting shifts:

• Workflow Friction: Are we losing any specific nuances in our workflows that were easier to customize in DC?
• Speed vs. Control: The Cloud feels faster for setup, but are we hitting more friction with complex permission schemes or automation rules compared to our DC setup?
• QA Integration: How are other teams handling test case management and CI/CD integrations now that we’ve moved to the Cloud?

I’m curious: Did your team experience a "process dip" after migrating to Cloud, or did you find the new features (like advanced roadmaps or better automation) streamlined your Agile practices?

Great question Oussama, I'm a consultant, not an Agile Team lead, but I've been part of many migration/transformations, here's my thoughts.

 

I wouldn't expect just moving from DC to the cloud to make a noticable difference to the performance of your teams, reduce cycle time, or improve quality, it's still (mostly) the same tool being used in the same way.

 

However you might use the Atlassian platform differently in the cloud, taking advantage of new core capabilities, extensions or integrations, for example...

Automation and ROVO can be used very effectively in the cloud to automate activities and functions.

Better integrations to adjunct tools, often to tools like build platform, test automation, CRM, helpdesks, etc can improve traceability and increase performance.

Sister products like Jira Product discovery can be transformational is separating an opportunity backlog from the delivery backlog to make pipeline and backlog management more effective.

Goals to align work to the outcomes the business is expecting increases motivation and transparency.

Projects to keep stakeholders up to date with challenges increases trust.

Timelines/Plans to make sure the delivery roadmap is clear, identify dependencies and ensure everyone is focussed on the right priorities.

I also would advocate using the momentum of change built during a migration to make sure you are also addressing any challenges you are facing in your current setup, for example ensuring more consistent use of tool configuration in order to collaborate better and improve reporting can be a key post-migration goal.
