Card Description changed and now can't find previous content

Question

The content in one of my cards descriptions randomly changed, to a previous version and now i cannot get what was originally there?  Can you find 'previous versions' of cards or anthing like that anywhere.

I've tried undo etc, but the 'new'/old content seems to have disappeared?!

This is the correct answer regarding the JSON description as documented here, and a good Power-Up recommendation from @Oleksandr

Hi Nicholas!

Trello doesn’t have a built-in "Version History" button for descriptions, but there is a chance to recover the text from the card's technical data.

Try this technical workaround:

Add .json to the end of the card's URL in your browser (e.g., trello.com/c/ABC123xyz.json) and hit Enter.

When the page of code opens, press Ctrl+F and search for a specific word you remember from the missing description.

Look for something like "data":{"old":{"desc":"text1"},"card":{"desc":"text2"}. The part marked as "old" is your previous version.

It looks a bit complicated, but it’s the best way to check if the content is still in the system's memory before it's gone for good.

For the future: I’d personally recommend installing the Board Assistant Power-Up (https://trello.com/power-ups/685016dd47b5654ae385bba6). It automatically logs changes to card names, labels, and custom fields directly in the comments. It’s constantly evolving, so they might even add description logging soon. It's a great way to keep an activity trail right on the card.
