Migration from Jira Core to Jira Software

Hello, currently I have Jira Core on my project. It was bought by mistake, but we started to work there and there are a lot of info there already.
Nowadays, we want to migrate to Jira Software.
Questions are:
- is it possible to migrate with all info (tasks, epic, etc.)
- what is the price for this? Do we need to pay actually something more? Or?

There is no "migration" to be done really, unless you're moving between servers.

JIRA Software is an application that you can add to JIRA Core. (The download for "JIRA Software" is actually JIRA Core with Software pre-installed for you). If you add the application to your existing installation of Core, all the functions become enabled, and all you need to do is licence it, enable the users and start using it. Data doesn't need to move.

If you do want to move servers (i.e. migrate), you can install JIRA Software cleanly, take a backup of the old system and restore it into the new one. It's not really even a migration.

You will need to pay more. JIRA Software licences cost more than JIRA Core ones. But, JIRA Software licences include Core usage, so you could do something like 25 Software users and 50 Core, giving you a total of 75 users with full access to all the Core functions.

to sum-up:
- we need to buy not whole JIRA Software but only application that can be 'added' to Core one.
- if so - all info will be saved (but what about tasks and epics - will they be recofnized by JIRA Software as epics and viewed correctly?)
- price: if we have for example 25 users - it costs 1200 for Core, and 1800 for Software. As i understood we need to pay difference - 600.

Not quite (although I think this is a matter of language rather than understanding). You don't really "buy JIRA Software". It's not paid for as a Software package, it's done by users. You can add the application to Core now, via Admin -> Manage applications, but to use it, you'll need licences for the users.

Yes, your JIRA Core data will be mostly untouched, and become available for use by JIRA Software functions. It will add facilities to your Epics that you'll notice straight away, but it won't significantly "reconfigure" them (if you stop using JIRA Software, they'll go back to working the way they did before, again, no data loss)

You are right about the licence costs - you can get separate licences for Core and Software, and we could talk about having mixed users, but the most simple case is "all 25 users need to use Software", and you are exactly right about how much that will cost.

In this case Nic, what does "add" mean? Does that mean download the Software zip file and use the "Upload an application" on the Applications tab? Or does it automatically see Core is already installed and only installs Software? We are currently on Core and are needing Software for a certain project (then it will go back to just Core). Since Software comes with Core in it, I don't want it to overwrite the current Core and all the customizations that we've applied. We are in the process of getting the Software liscences, so once that is done, will Software show up in the Applications tab automatically and we don't have to do any uploading? Thanks, I know this is an old post but I cannot find an answer anywhere.
